My name is Joseph Kohn and I am founder and principal photographer at IQphoto, a small, family owned wedding photography studio, based in San Francisco.
A bit about me: I was taking photos since middle school. I was obsessed about it to the point that I had two film cameras in my backpack and was constantly taking photos. I even got in trouble because of that at school but I had to take photos. Photos of everything. People, buildings, cars, things. Our single bathroom was full of chemicals and my room was covered by photos from the floor to the ceiling.
Fast forward from my childhood and through my engineering career, I ended up in San Francisco in 2002 and founded IQphoto. Within 2 years it became my full time job.
And to create visual story that does not lose value over time. I am a true believer and lasting memories and I have a very specific way of capturing things.
I've captured over a 1000 weddings and never seen a couple alike. Everyone is different. Emotions, traditions, rituals... So when people ask me about my style, I say, I don't have a style. Instead I have an approach that makes sense for each situation.
In the age of Instagram, things are carefully adjusted, controlled, photoshopped. Reality is lame. But not for me. I learned how to find beauty in little things and between the lines by being patient and quietly observing. So much can be captured this way.
IQphoto is family. My wife helps me with logistics and customers. My mother is also actively participating in the post production and personally designed hundreds of wedding albums. My brother is a professional wedding videographer.
Sometimes IQphoto is being confused as a big studio. We are not...
While I prefer to stay in the background, I am pretty good at being involved in the entire wedding without being noticed or create distractions. When situation requires for me to step in, I will. You won't see me walking around without a purpose. I know exactly where to to be at any given time.
My clients can tell you about IQ in much better terms. They sent me countless "thank you cards" and wrote hundreds of reviews (even a poem) and here are these that focus on my personality. And these are from people, we had an awesome connection. I am forever grateful for my clients love and support.
